Lead Data Engineer

Public Sector Consultancy

Are you a Lead Data Engineer or Architect that wants to see the real-world impact from what you create?

The client

This consultancies mission is simple; to use tech and data to help make public services better.

This consultancy have a culture that values their staff and are looking for three people to join them as Lead Engineers, to enable government organisations to become data-driven and data-led.

The role

You’ll be tasked with helping to define, shape and perfect data strategies across central and local government agencies, ensuring they’re getting the most use out of their data whilst also understanding it’s value. They’re looking for someone who can provide real guidance to organisations, helping them to build and design modern data platforms in a range of different clouds. You’ll also be leading the implementation of data pipelines and efficient storage mechanisms.

The candidate

What are they looking for?

  • Experience with Apache stack.
  • Prior experience building out or improving data architectures.
  • Knowledge of SQL, and ideally at least one of Python, Java or Scala.
  • Experience working with various data storage technologies, such as data lakes, data warehouses and traditional SQL/NoSQL database.
  • Prior experience with Databricks and Hadoop.

In return for the above they’re offering a salary of up to £90K, plus majority remote work (on paper you’d have to be in the office twice a month, though none of their employees have gone in once this year). They offer 23 days holiday plus bank holidays (and a shutdown over Christmas), flexible working hours and a variety of other perks.

We welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes parents, the self-taught, the university-educated, and people of a wide variety of nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day for work.

We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences to apply to be part of life at Zebra People. We are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. We would be happy to meet any accommodation requests during the application or interview process, please just let us know.
