Medical start-up
Or call Mitch Hooper
On a mission to help people who have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, this start-up are looking for their first QA hire.
Their mission is to make life better for people suffering from kidney disease by building one of the first algorithm-based behavioural change programmes. The application that does this brings together tech and health coaches that can be prescribed by doctors – yes, that’s now a thing in Germany!
As the first QA in the business, you’ll have a big influence on how these guys go about their quality assurance. They have said they want an automated system in place so you’d need experience there, as well as with manual testing. As they’re building a medical device they need someone who wants to set high standard – you’ll be writing detailed and comprehensive test plans, as well as ensuring there is regulatory compliance across process and documentation.
At present there are three engineers working on the product (they work solely with TypeScript and Node, with React Native for the mobile application), with a further person scheduled to join soon. You’d be joining this close knit team.
What experience do I need?
Due to the nature of the build they do need someone who’s ideally got experience of working on high scale systems, as well as within a start-up. You’ll have previously worked with test frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress and Detox (though not necessarily all of them, they’re happy to help upskill). You won’t have to set these up from scratch but you will need to write tests, with support from the engineering team.
As they wanted a uniform language throughout they’ve settled on statically typed JavaScript for the build – Node, TypeScript etc. Ideally you’ll have some experience here.
If you are a German speaker then that’s a HUGE bonus!
What’s the interview process?
It’s three stages. There’s an initial chat with the CTO; this is a chance for you to find out more about the company and for them to find out more about you. There’ll be some low level technical questions but nothing too heavy. This is followed by a technical round. There is a technical test here though they’re happy for you to tackle that however you feel you work best – either during the interview on a shared screen or beforehand as a take home. Lastly, you’ll meet some of the wider engineering and management team.
What’s in it for you?
Culture is key to these guys. You’ll be given freedom to work remotely, flexibly, in an autonomous way. They do meet up on occasion as well, though how often boils down to where you are located. They are an early stage start-up so there’s not a ton of benefits at the moment, though they are offering generous equity (as the first QA hire and the person who’s going to build the product, you’ll be well renumerated here), a 5K training budget and 28 days holiday (plus your bank hols).
If it was of interest to you, then longer term they are happy for you to move into a developer or compliance role, though the short to medium focus will be on quality assurance.
Not to mention the company having an incredibly diverse workforce, cross-collaboration across teams, and lastly, a deep sense of meaning and purpose behind what you do, every single day. Salary wise, they’re happy to offer up to £60K.
We welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes parents, the self-taught, the university-educated, and people of a wide variety of nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day for work.
We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences to apply to be part of life at Zebra People. We are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. We would be happy to meet any accommodation requests during the application or interview process, please just let us know.
Let's work together to find the right people, fast.
We'll partner with you to find a company you can grow with.
