Based in Berlin and with more than 120 million users in 190 countries, this digital community for athletes is looking to bring on an Engineering Manager to build and lead their Map Rendering Engine team on a hybrid basis.
Their platform offers a holistic view of your active lifestyle – no matter where you live, which sport you partake in or what device you use.
Why are they hiring for this role?:
This is a new position for them. They need someone to focus on the functionality of integrating their mapping platform into several different verticals. You’d be heading up a team of six people that the Director of Engineering is taking a step back from. He sits at the head of three teams, and fourteen people. There are plans for growth in each of the three teams and once you are settled in, the possibility of you managing a further one of these teams.
What will I be doing?
Working closely with other members of the Map Platform department and engineering leaders around the company, you’d be leading on company wide initiatives such as hiring, best practices and tech vision. They’re keen for you to nurture a collaborative, cross-functional and high performing culture. You’d also be defining, designing and delivering new map rendering capabilities that enable the efficient delivery of new features and functionality. Here’s a bit more info:
What experience do I need?
You’ve previously managed a team of engineers, leading them to meet ambitious goals and helping to support various members of the given team’s career development. This will be through career development plans, mentoring, knowledge sharing and several other different methods (think organising buddy ups, paired programming etc.).
You’ll also have proven experience of delivering well-designed, high-quality products at scale. Ideally these will have been customer-facing applications in the graphics space (or an adjacent one). A familiarity with C++ development and challenges is also a must.
What’s in it for me?
They’re offering up to €153,476 for the role as well as a wide range of benefits. These include 25 days annual leave (plus public holidays) and an IT Stipend (€ 82.78/month added to monthly pay).
Some other perks include a gear & events stipend (up to €915 per calendar year used for gear/clothes, athletic events, or any gear that keeps you active), a learning & development allowance of €1,820 and a health club stipend (up to €460 per calendar year used for any membership to a gym, athletic facility, personal training or coaching).
We welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes parents, the self-taught, the university-educated, and people of a wide variety of nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day for work.
We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences to apply to be part of life at Zebra People.
