Product Designer

Chance to join an early stage start-up working in the sustainability sector, where their work is a fundamental part of reaching Net Zero.

The client

Open to a Mid/Mid-Senior or Senior Product Designer (more on the UI side), hence the large gap in budget (£55,000 – 70,000 – doe).

This client is focussed on moving homes away from fossil fuel heating and has to-date been supported by a design consultancy to help them build their operating system.

However, they are now ready to take on their own internal designer. They’re already underway in terms of style guides, branding, having components created etc. But there’s still lots of room for creativity here…long term you will have huge amounts of creative control.

They have a small but mighty team, split between London and Bristol. They see each other once a week in their London office, so will need you to be able/willing to do the same.

The role

As the sole designer, you’re going to have a lot of responsibility. So they’ll need to be confident in your ability with autonomy and initiative, along with dealing with highly complex projects, executed with polished and engaging visual designs.

This role is central to helping them turn a slow, manual, and technically complex process into one that’s quick, intuitive and enjoyable for users.

These include an automated product estimator, a survey app to speedily collect and process data from people’s homes, and a tool to create optimally efficient system designs for each property.

The candidate

• Experience working on products, particularly apps.
• Clean and uncluttered work in portfolio with clear attention to detail.
• Strong design system experience – both in terms of using them and creating them.
• Strong communication skills – including critique for your own design work.
• Happy to get stuck in and be in fast iteration cycles.
• Your portfolio should demonstrate your end-to-end capabilities, including research but with a particular focus on engaging and highly polished UI and Visual Design deliverables.

Bonus points if you’ve…

• Worked for a start-up previously.
• Worked within renewable energy, EcoTech or similar.
• Worked on SaaS products.
• Worked as a sole designer for any of the above.
