The JavaScript hiring market in the UK is becoming increasingly active. Over recent weeks, we have seen a noticeable rise in new JavaScript roles across LinkedIn. As part of our work within the Technology and Engineering space at Zebra People, we reviewed 50 recently posted JavaScript roles to understand what trends are emerging.
Before looking at the findings, it is worth noting something we frequently advise candidates. The LinkedIn apply system is not always the most effective way to stand out. If you are genuinely interested in a role, sending a direct message to the hiring manager or talent lead expressing your interest can significantly increase your chances of being noticed.
TypeScript continues to dominate
Of the 50 JavaScript roles analysed, 78% required or actively used TypeScript. This continues to reflect the wider trend we are seeing across engineering teams, where TypeScript has become the default for large scale, maintainable development. For JavaScript engineers not yet working with TypeScript, upskilling in this area will be increasingly important.
A decline in junior opportunities
Only two of the 50 roles reviewed were junior positions. The majority of demand sits at mid level and senior level, which aligns with what clients are telling us. Companies are prioritising engineers who can operate independently, deliver impact quickly, and contribute without extensive oversight.
AI knowledge is becoming an expected skill
A significant proportion of roles, 46%, referenced AI in some form. In many cases this was experience integrating AI into products, understanding machine learning powered features, or simply demonstrating a willingness to incorporate AI tools into everyday workflow. AI literacy is steadily becoming a standard expectation in engineering roles, including those traditionally focused on JavaScript, frameworks, and architecture.
Seniority breakdown across 50 roles
- Lead or Principal roles: 10%
- Senior roles: 56%
- Mid-level roles: 30%
- Junior roles: 4%
With almost 90% of all roles sitting at mid-level or senior level, it raises a wider question around whether companies are reducing the number of early career roles due to increased automation and AI supported workflows. It is too early to draw a definitive conclusion, but it is a pattern worth monitoring.
A snapshot of the market
This research represents a sample of the latest 50 JavaScript roles posted in the UK, rather than a full market breakdown. However, the trends are clear. TypeScript skills are in high demand, AI exposure is becoming increasingly valuable, and junior roles remain limited. Demand is highest for experienced JavaScript engineers who can contribute quickly and with autonomy.
At Zebra People, we specialise in Technology and Engineering recruitment and will continue to monitor emerging patterns within the JavaScript and wider engineering landscape. If you are navigating hiring challenges or planning your next career move, we are here to support you with data led insight and market expertise.
