UI Design Manager

John Lewis & Partners

We are currently supporting large scale growth for John Lewis & Partners. One of the current needs is a UI Design Manager to oversee one of the 5 streams within the UI Design half of the team.
While UI is the core focus, you'll still have the opportunity to work end to end, working in partnership with UX counterparts.

The client

The John Lewis Partnership is the UK’s largest employee owned business and the parent company of two cherished retail brands – John Lewis and Waitrose, which are owned in Trust by 80,000 Partners.

They have 34 John Lewis stores (plus one outlet) and 332 Waitrose stores across the UK, along with and respectively. They also have two international sourcing offices, a soft furnishings factory, various distribution centres, three Waitrose & Partners cookery schools, a content production hub, heritage centre and their own Waitrose & Partners farm.

If you’ve ever stepped through the doors of a John Lewis or Waitrose store, shopped online, or seen any of their adverts, you’ll know there’s something unique about them.

That unique proposition is their Partners. As co-owners they have a say in the business and receive a share of the profits, so they put time and effort into making it work. Their Partners are the reason they’re the success that tey are.

The role

Have you heard about John Lewis Omnichannel?

Want to be part of the UK’s biggest retail transformation? The Omnichannel Design team is at the forefront of transforming the John Lewis & Partners Customer Experience. They are working together to redefine what it means to shop, connecting stores and online into a truly omnichannel experience. As a part of the Omnichannel Design team you will get the chance to shape the customer experience across multiple touchpoints, working with Experience Designers, Service Designers, Store Concept Designers and many more to transform John Lewis.


  • Collaborating with UX colleagues, you will be brainstorming concepts, freehand sketching, low-fi and high-fi rapid prototyping to shape user-centred design solutions which can be tested with customers at pace
  • Being a UI component expert, you will be collaborating with other designers to create accurate responsive template mockups and working with the development team to realise designs including interactive states and motion/ animation
  • Manage a small team (2-3) of UI Designers.
  • Take lead on projects asigned to you.

The candidate

Key Requirments: 

  • You are an experienced UI specialist, who has a portfolio to prove it.
  • You can demonstrate working collaboratively to meet customer and business goals from concept to finished product.
  • You have experience either managing or mentoring more Junior members of the team and are ready to step into the chalenge of management officially.
  • You’ve worked in Agile as part of an efficient and multi-disciplined team.
  • You create beautiful digital experiences that are accessible, intuitive, consistent and delightful. You are proud to be pixel perfect and attention to detail is part of your DNA
  • You’ve worked with a design system and know how to work with it creatively
  • You’re proficient in Figma
