These days, every company claims they “do UX”. But do they know what UX even is? More importantly, do they develop and nurture it? Rarely. They don’t realise it’s not just a buzzword. It’s an investment. Not simply in the business but the UX Consultants themselves. One agency gets that. They understand that “good” UX comes from proper development and training of their employees.

Still debating whether this is for you? How about £4000 in yearly courses and programmes for each UX Consultant.

Over two decades ago, well before UX was even called “UX”, this agency was one of a handful of agencies that made their mark on the industry. Two decades later and with an intentional growth of up to 30 maximum, this agency is now hiring a UX Consultant to help develop within their team of 24 UX Consultants. This might sound like a lot but each UX Consultant works with their own clients. But don’t worry, you won’t be thrown in the deep end straight away. You’ll start out shadowing a colleague on their own account before claiming your own.

UX and Research is not siloed either; every UX Consultant will be expected to conduct User Research and use their findings for evidence based design. Training can also be provided for both User Research AND UX Design.

The agency also has the luxury of never having to pitch for business. After two decades of exceptional experiences for a variety of clients including Easyjet, Kew Gardens, BBC, Arsenal, Oxfam and many more, they tend to get new business through word of mouth. They also have the luxury of picking projects that interest them than those that make the most financial sense. How does this effect you? It won’t. At least not straight away. But in time, you’ll notice the client list you add to your portfolio will show far more range and depth than ever before.

The role

If you think you’ll be just a “wireframe monkey” then think again. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. You’ll take extra care to gather deep insightful research – qualitative and quantitative – before even touching Sketch.

When you’re not doing that, you’ll be on full day training courses, development programmes and UX events across the country – expensed on the agency.

And when you need a breather, you’ll join the team on socials, night outs, game days and personal development weeks.

Colleagues will become friends. Work will become fun. And you’ll ask yourself why you didn’t do this sooner!

The candidate

Although there aren’t any set requirements, there’s a few things that’ll help you get going.

A couple of years in the industry i.e. a year or two at another agency or fast paced UX team, a good working knowledge of UCD thinking (or at least an understanding), love of User Research and enthusiasm to do more of it, good communicator with confidence about what they’ve done and lastly, self-awareness of yourself, troubles you’ve had in UX and limits you reckon you can push past.
