Founded just over three years ago and already valued at $300m, this insurance start-up have been named one of London’s best companies to work for.
Currently their team numbers 95 though they’re expanding quickly, thanks to backing by investors who have also championed the likes of Monzo and Spotify. They’re on a mission to make insurance more instant, affordable and inclusive by using machine learning, automation and comprehensive data integrations to offer quicker, simpler and fairer insurance to customers.
In 2021 they’re expecting their customer base to triple and as a tech-centric organisation, their engineers are fundamental to their success. They’re already created some pretty cool tools, including a fraud detection system, a bespoke Customer Account application and a unique bespoke risk engine, which accurately prices their customer base.
The iOS app itself is 100% Swift with an MVP architecture. Code is organised into reusable modules using local Swift packages to keep the codebase maintainable and scalable. Currently they’re using UIKit but SwiftUI is something they’re excited to introduce in the near future. Unit testing is done with XCTest and their continuous integration tool of choice is Bitrise.

The Efficiency Team
These guys are all about making the customer’s experience as instant, efficient, and enjoyable as possible. They look to enable their customers to self-serve their policy needs, from making policy changes, to managing renewals.
The Growth Team
Here you’d be responsible for making customer sign-up and renewal experiences as customer-friendly as possible. You’d also be maintaining comparison site integrations as well as implementing changes to their pricing system. It’s a cross-functional team, consisting of both backend and frontend engineers, as well as a content designer and product manager.
The Claims Team
This team ensures the claims process is as smooth as possible. This would entail working with delivery partners to build reliable and accurate integrations. Long term, they’d be looking for you to think on a wider scale and fully redesign what the experience should look like.
Having surveyed their employees they’re going to be moving to a hybrid working model post-Covid, with 2/3/4 days in the office and the rest from home. Alternatively, they’re happy for their engineers to work completely remotely with a trip to the office once a quarter. They’ve got three roles live across three different levels, mid-level at £50K-£70, Senior at £65K – £85K and Lead at £90K. They offer stock to every candidate as well as 25 days holiday (plus bank hols), health insurance, at least 2 days a year self-development and regular hackathons.
