Lead UX Designer sought for exciting Tech startup.

The client

5 years ago a pair of entrepenuers built an innovative platform using natural language technology to match users up to exactly what they need, quickly and within the budget of the user. Platform is going from strength to strength and they’re now looking to hire a Lead UX Designer.

Based in West London, this is a dynamic, exciting early stage business but with the financial security of an established business – so you get all the benefits of working in a start-up environment (ownership, agility, responsibility and stimulation) without any of the worry!

The role

What they’re hiring for and responsibilities…

They’re looking for their first key UX hire – a Lead UX Designer. Reporting into the Chief of Product and working alongside the Head of Design, this will be a unique opportunity to do a variety of things:

  • Strategically envisage UX in the business in 5 years
  • Implement ways of working
  • Advocate best UX practices
  • Incrementally make delivery more efficient without losing quality
  • Build out the UX team
  • Remain hands on i.e. wireframining, prototyping, user journeys, user research


Co-founders –> Chief of Product –> Lead UX Designer (You), Head of Design, Product Design

There are also 5-7 Developers on the platform alongside teams in Marketing, Finance, CS, Product and more.


Base salary = £70,000 – £90,000

Packages include medical insurance, pension, performance related bonuses, stock options, free lunch on Fridays and a few other perks. There is NO remote working – they would like to offer it later but for now, they need people there on site as they are so young and need to get the structure right.

Hours are 9-6 but have flexibility too i.e. start early, leave early.


The candidate

Culture and type of person:

They have a pretty decent culture, everyone’s quite driven and enjoy what they do. Each person has a few unique qualities adding to the culture so they aren’t looking for someone to “fit in” but someone who can add something new.

They also need people who are creative in their thinking, analytical in their approach and also able to think on their feet. The company is also quite data driven at the moment so someone who’s used to that is helpful but they are looking to become more user centric.

Interview process:

1st stage – telephone call (20 mins) with Chief of Product

2nd stage – 1 hour f2f with Chief of Product and 1-2 others

3rd stage – 1 ½ hour f2f with founders and Chief of Product, task presentation (on-site, not pre-prepared)
