Lead Product Designer

Heavyweight Brand within Global Media Publication

Strategic and collaborative Product Designer to lead and shape the future of the brand's global digital membership and subscriptions model. You will partner with Product teams and stakeholders to implement business-minded solutions whilst keeping the core integrity of user and content-driven design.

The client

Our client is a leading global media publication with well-known brands, many of which have become the archetypes of style across fashion, culture, politics and more.

Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, they’ve been a clear voice through tumultuous times, always placing their reader, now user, at the centre of their mission statement.

Our client has been ahead of the curve in being proactive, in order to stay relevant the changing landscape of media in the digital age and have 143 magazines, over 144 million readers in 29 countries, more than 100 websites and almost 435 million visitors monthly.

They work collaboratively and have a design team where diversity, creativity and unique thinking is at their core. They have concrete plans for development and aim to promote from within.

 

The role

Our client is looking for a strategic and collaborative Product Design Lead to partner with Product and business stakeholders. Your aim is to drive business and design strategies, that deliver ambitious revenue and audience growth targets, while placing users and content at the centre.

The ideal candidate is a systems thinker that brings robust visual design backed by user and data insights to the brand and organization. You will have the opportunity to work across many of the brand’s initiatives, leading its vision for a new phase of growth in their digital memberships portfolio.

You’ll partner closely with UX writers and researchers, as well as a cross-functional product, engineering, marketing, and editorial team, to solve complex problems through the lens of digital subscriptions. An important remit is the need to remain true to the core characteristics of the brand as you lead it into a digital landscape.

This role will report to the Senior Product Design Lead, who oversees the user experience, visual identity, and creative strategy across all of their digital products, and will coordinate with cross-functional teams across the US, Europe, and India.

The candidate

As an ideal candidate, you will have experience building and maintaining design systems used across multiple brands and products. You will know how to operate in a matrix organization and will be able to present designs and strategies to stakeholders at all levels. You will learn how to adapt to processes and help shape how our design team operates daily.

  • Expertise leading visual and interaction design
  • Experience with digital memberships and subscriptions as well as loyalty programs
  • Experience with or a desire to learn how to work within a globally distributed team in a large organization
  • Being comfortable with working with international teams across different time zones
  • At least five years of digital product or interactive design experience, preferably working on consumer-facing digital products
  • Experience managing , mentoring and leading other designers
  • A command of when to seek qualitative research and data to inform product and design decisions
  • An astute eye for details (visual, typographic and digital)
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), with an understanding of when to both define and defend the rationale behind decisions
