Lead Engineer

With an aim to solve a complex problem in a simple way, this B2B SaaS investing-to-give platform is aiming to rewrite the $3 trillion non-profit industry.

The client

The platform aims to tackle real-world problems by helping align personal and corporate interests with social impact.

Their platform offers employees an opportunity to use a small portion of their pre-tax salary for a good cause. Through automated matched funding and investments, the centralised platform will give power to employees to see their money grow. The platform uses personal and business values to coach and help choose which charitable foundations their money will go to – think of it as a little pot for purpose.

This start-up has big ambitions and is looking to kick start its engineering team with a Lead Engineer that will pave the way for the future of tech for this business.

The role

As comes naturally with a greenfield project, there is a lot to get stuck into.

You’ll be working closely with the CPO in defining architecture and planning what to build –  think bouncing ideas of each other and deciding languages, frameworks, and tools. As such, they need someone that is confident in building out backend and making architectural decisions. After the decision-making, you’ll get stuck in with building the platform as well as helping out with their recruitment processes to build out the engineering team.

They’ve got a clear timeline from architectural decision making to a testable product, with plans on building out their engineering team to five so it’s a real opportunity to be part of the growth of a start-up.

The candidate

Who are they looking for?

They need someone with a strong development background with the ability to come and hit the ground running. If you’ve scaled up start-ups in the past or built platforms entirely from scratch then they’ll be keen to hear from you. Experience in payment systems or a background in FinTech is also something they’d like to see, although not a hard requirement.

Language wise they’re open. As the first engineer within the company you’ll be given a lot of scope and autonomy to make these decisions. Not just with languages, but with tools and infrastructure. They’ve got a few ideas of what they’d like to use (GraphQL, React, testing, monitoring) but the ultimate decision is yours.

What will I get for this?

They’re offering a salary of up to £105K for this role as well as equity options. They currently work on a remote basis however in an ideal world they’d like to start seeing people In their newly acquired office space in Hoxton around once a week. This is also an opportunity to come into a project with all your ideas to implement and build a brand new platform from scratch.
