Lead Developer

Community start-up

My client has created a revolutionary community built entirely around voice.

With solid financial backing, this start-up is working on the premise that voice is a much more familiar and helpful medium to communicate than text or writing. Their product allows you to create a real connection and help people overcome the emotional isolation that traditional social media has made worse. Their mission is to build an online voice community that provides peer support for every type of person, for every type of challenge.

They are looking for a Lead Developer to join their team and lead the build, architect and production of their product. This role is perfect for someone who wants an exciting challenge and is keen to shape the development of the product in their own way.

In terms of tech stack, they’re looking for someone who is proficient in React Native and Ruby on Rails. However, if you are familiar with another server-side language and feel you’d be able to get up to speed with Ruby quickly then they’re more than happy to have a chat. As well as that, there are a few skills that would be a bonus:

  • Experience with AWS, storing data in S3 and PostgreSQL.
  • Working experience with Swift (iOS) or Java (Android).
  • Tech Ops: Heroku and shell scripting.

As mentioned, you’ll have a lot of input including the freedom to:

  • Design, develop and maintain the app, backend services and infrastructure.
  • Champion good testing practice and keeping hold of the team’s excellence as they grow.
  • Help the company to grow the team with your knowledge, including a big input into hires and helping them to develop.
  • Foster a challenging environment centred around a passion for quality code and curiosity.
  • Shape the technology, culture and direction of the tech department.
  • Create user centred tech to help solve sensitive and complex human problems.

In return for the above they are offering a salary of up to £80K, plus an attractive equity package. You’ll also be able to choose your own equipment and the company hold regular team events. They are also very big on your wellbeing, with time and space for meditation, gym, nutrition and subscription to a health app of your choice.

We welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes parents, the self-taught, the university-educated, and people of a wide variety of nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day for work.

We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences to apply to be part of life at Zebra People. We are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. We would be happy to meet any accommodation requests during the application or interview process, please just let us know.
