Lead Data Scientist

eCommerce start-up

Three years into their journey, this company are looking to change the face of beauty sales through their innovative eCommerce build.

The client

They’ve achieved tremendous growth through the past few years, generating a huge amount of sales by building a talented, motivated and fun team to be a part of. They’re looking to fuel their growth by bringing on a Lead Data Scientist.

Currently they’re in the process of building intelligent systems to track business performance and empower decisions. You’ll be helping to set up an R&D team, looking at emerging technologies and how to incorporate AR/VR, working closely with senior management to create a roadmap. They’ll be hands on development of PoCs and production applications while managing expectations for development of tooling and features.

Ideally you’ll have mentored juniors before as this’ll be a big part of the role – you will be building out a team around you.

The role

A few of the things you’d be working with include:

  • Machine learning models – think frameworks such as Tensorflow, SciKitLearn etc.
  • Python – it wouldn’t be a data scientist role without it right?
  • SQL – you won’t be afraid of analysing real world, messy data.
  • Visualisation tools, Statistical Modelling and Machine learning techniques – think Regression, Clustering, Decision Trees.
  • Model Selection – Cross Validation, AIC etc.
  • Combinatorics/Graph Theory – applying it to routing problems.

Bonus points for any knowledge of Stochastic Optimisation, a degree in a quantitative subject or knowledge of things like Redshift, Snowflake EMR or Boto.

The candidate

Currently the whole team is remote (for obvious reasons!) though ordinarily they’re based near Sloane Square. They do offer both remote working and flexitime though, so if you’re not keen on being in the office 24/7 that’s something they’re happy with. There’s also a generous holiday allowance as well as an extensive training and education scheme (think lunch and learn, workshops, meetups etc.). Most importantly, they really give you ownership of a project. Offering up to £100K for the position and keen to interviews rolling as soon as possible.

We welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes parents, the self-taught, the university-educated, and people of a wide variety of nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day for work.

We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences to apply to be part of life at Zebra People. We are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. We would be happy to meet any accommodation requests during the application or interview process, please just let us know.
