Zebra People are very excited to announce that we are exclusively working with D-Ford London, the innovation hub of Ford to help them find Lead Software Designers or Creative Technologist to work on some of the most complex transportation challenges out there.

Working on connectivity, automation, electrification , AI your role will be fundamental to the future of Ford.

The client

As a Software Designer, you use code as your creative design medium, with a deep empathy for the end user’s needs. You have an interest in the whole design process from research to building prototypes to MVPs. You lead the team through an iterative digital prototyping process, building in order to learn and understand what is desirable and feasible. Your methods will inspire teams to be creative with possible digital solutions and enable the team to test with real users.

As a Software Design Lead you will…

+   Lead multidisciplinary teams through the human-centered design process by inspiring process and direction of all aspects of project work and deliverables.

+   Lead the planning, design and operations of experiments relating to new products and services at varying levels of fidelity, depending on learning goals.

+   Balance team autonomy and guidance through harmonious collaboration and team engagement.

+   Manage design director support, project budget, and communication with internal stakeholders and external partners.

+   Approach problems with an exploratory mindset, asking “why” and “how” before deciding on “what” to build.

+   Participate in design research to build understanding and empathy for users’ needs, debriefing user feedback from the field and synthesizing findings into meaningful concepts and next steps.

+   Keep abreast of a breadth of code languages, prototyping tools, and frameworks, staying aware and curious about emerging tools and services.

+   Provide practical technology expertise as you and your team test analyze specific concepts using digital tools and platforms.

+   Work on concepts in a pre-MVP stage, meeting the right level of fidelity that is necessary to learn through feedback from users.

+   Stay nimble and be willing to scrap what isn’t working to iterate on the problem to solve, and the design and implementation to solve it with.

+   Translate between non-technical team members and stakeholders and technical practitioners, at all levels of the organization.

+   Steward design intent and concepts into development, potentially with external development partners.

+   Support talent growth and craft development of your practice as a software design and engineering community by exploring emerging tools and processes, hiring great designers, and inspiring culture and craft excellence.


Basic Qualifications:

+   Bachelor’s degree and/or 5+ years’ work experience in software design or software development, preferably in a startup environment.

+   2+ years’ experience of huma-centered design.

+   Experience of leading technical teams as an experienced practitioner of agile software development, knowing how to get the best out of multidisciplinary digital delivery teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

+   Experience of utilizing design thinking and/or huma-centered design in large organizations.

+   Hands-on experience of a broad range of technology systems.

+   Experience of working on highly collaborative design teams, or other multidisciplinary teams.

+   Experience of working with both engineering and design teams.

+   Experience of working on products and digital services.

+   Passionate about automotive and transportation industry.

We have four global labs: Palo Alto, Detroit, London and soon, Shanghai.
