Outdoor Adventure Mapping

Do you have an interest in outdoor adventure? If so, this is the company for you! They’re looking to revolutionise the way people discover, plan and share their adventures.

The client

Their advanced 3D mapping technology, outdoor toolkit and curated adventure index is used by top pros and a growing global community of outdoor enthusiasts.

These guys have their head office in Chamonix – it’s unreal, literally right in front of Mont Blanc. They have a chalet you can crash in whenever you do visit which is pretty cool. They also have an office in Berlin, though if you’re not near any of these locations then a good percentage of their company work remotely, which they’re happy for you to do.

The role

They’re looking for an iOS Engineer to join their mobile team which at the end of this hiring round will sit at 7 people, with you joining a team of 3 including a Lead. They’re currently rewriting their mobile solutions in native Android and native iOS, as they feel it allows them to choose the best tooling for the job.

As their users often use the app in the wilderness and away from phone signal and plug sockets, they’re putting a BIG focus on energy conservation whilst maintaining performance and an offline first approach to data. The architecture is MVVM so that there’s a clean separation of concerns and development flow, also incorporating their own C++ map library.

The candidate

What will you be doing?

You’ll work end to end developing new features in iOS (following the full feature lifecycle), collaborating with your team so you can build solutions with the highest possible impact. As such, they do need someone who’s got demonstrable expertise in Swift and iOS development. Strong English skills are a must, as this is the language they all communicate in. They would expect you to have at least one app published in the iOS store as well.

There’s also a few other things that would be a huge bonus, including:

  • Well-informed opinions and practice regarding code quality, testing, pair-programming, linting, type safety and code review.
  • A product mindset – they need you to empathise with the end user’s experience.
  • Technical experience with the likes of CoreLocation Apple framework and ReactiveCocoa/ReactiveSwift framework.
  • Git, CI, testing, automation etc.

Naturally, an interest in the outdoors is a huge plus point. The team in Chamonix often get together for skiing, runs or climbing whilst they also get the whole company together twice a year to do similar.

They’re offering up to 80,000 Euros for this role as well as a pretty awesome range of benefits, including 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays of the country you are based in), a 3 bedroom apartment in Chamonix for employees use (including full ski gear!), 75% off Chamonix season passes, up to 50% off brands such as Patagonia, Arc’teryx, Norrana and others, flexible work hours and locations and the chance to join what is a real egoless and collaborative team. There are no barriers between departments, they’re super transparent about everything and are genuinely just a bunch of likeminded people building a product they’re passionate about.
