The client

Zeroheight are the very first DesignOps start-up, building out tools that the next generation of product teams will use to deliver design more effectively at scale.

So far, they have launched a design system documentation product that through word-of-mouth alone is being used by over 1000 customers including multiple Fortune 100s. However, design system documentation is just the beginning… they’re now perfectly positioned to become a leader in DesignOps software and transform how products are built.

They are currently a small team of just 12 people across the business, but due to some great successes and early adopters, they are already a profitable business and beginning to scale. The plan is to be 40 people in the next 12 months and double again the following year.

The next key hire in this growth could be you, as the Head of Design – helping to ensure that design is at the core of what they are building.

The role

As the Head of Design yoy will focus on growing the design team, establishing design maturity and best practice and implementing a career progression framework in order to develop the team around you. You’ll be working closely with cross-functional peers in Product and Engineering to continue to build a world-class product. Alongside this, working with the founders to contribute to the company strategy and work on chasing down the biggest problems that product teams face.

Some of your main responsibilities:

  • Recruiting and hiring the design team, helping achieve big plans to scale over the next 12 months.
  • Coaching and mentoring your team.
  • Creating and teaching the design vision throughout the company.
  • Being a strong advocate for design, establishing processes and practices.
  • Practice what you preach by focusing on the operational side of design, design systems and more within your own team.

The candidate

  • Experience leading, coaching and mentoring teams of designers. Bonus points if this has been in a high-growth tech start-up environment.
  • Have broad Product Design experience spanning research, prototyping, user testing and visual design.
  • Put users at the heart of everything. Be passionate about supporting everyone through inclusive design and accessibility techniques
  • Amazing communication, experience working with all different levels within an organisation.
  • Excited about design systems/DesignOps a big plus.
  • Able to come to the London office at least once a week (post COVID of course)
