Frontend Developer

AI Company

Based in the AI space, this fast-expanding start-up create technology to counter terrorism and protect children.

The client

There has been a surge in interest in AI tech recently though this company are looking to engage with it in an ethical way. They’re doing this by bridging the gap between humans and AI; researching, designing and developing user-centric AI tech.

Since their launch in 2016 they’ve built a team of 10 and are looking to at least double this by next April. As such they’re looking for a frontend engineer with at least 3 years’ experience to join their team. It’s a great opportunity to join a multi-skilled team and work on several greenfield projects with no legacy code to hold you back.

The role

They’re big fans of React and use this in conjunction with both Redux and JSX, as well as both ES6 and ES7. You’ll be transpiling JavaScript from these standards to ES5 using Webpack, as well as playing around with things like Fetch APIs and JSON data. Then there’s your more standard languages such as HTML and CSS (any experience of SASS would be a bonus).

In the short term they’ve a project in iOS, which is likely running through to January. They’re not expecting you to have experience with this as it’s a frontend role, though ideally you would be open to working with it – they’re happy to help you upskill for an initial period after joining.

They work primarily with Node on the backend so if you have got any experience with creating APIs with that, it would be a huge advantage. As would Docker knowledge.

The candidate

They’re offering a salary of up to £60K as well as some pretty awesome benefits. They make an active point of encouraging their employees to work to their best ability, so offer unlimited holiday, flexitime and the ability to work from wherever when needs be. They’ve also got a solid bonus structure and are in the process of rolling out several new perks.

We welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes parents, the self-taught, the university-educated, and people of a wide variety of nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day for work.

We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences to apply to be part of life at Zebra People. We are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. We would be happy to meet any accommodation requests during the application or interview process, please just let us know.
