DevOps Engineer

HR Platform

Do you want to work for a company who are at the forefront of every successful company’s agenda?

The client

Offering 100% remote work and picking up momentum, media attention and public awareness, our client is looking to tackle the problem of workplace misconduct. They’ve created an app that allows employees to report through to the end user (nominally a member of HR), who is able to view complaints through a SaaS platform. This allows them to use data analytics to pinpoint where the problem is and how they can address it.

With their funding giving them a good runway they’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to join their UK based squad, which numbers 6 engineers and a SDiT. Their stack is completely JavaScript, with Node and Express being used on the backend, and TypeScript, React and React Native for the front and mobile.

The role

This is the first DevOps role within the company so there is a lot of scope for you to have influence on the road they go down. The CTO is a big fan of autonomy so if you can make a good use case for a certain technology, they’re happy to take your steer.

As it stands they’re predominantly using CircleCI and Docker on AWS. However, they do want to start introducing infrastructure as code so Terraform experience would be a bonus. Everything is on simple EC2 servers but they are looking to containerise in the future, so any Kubernetes experience would be a bonus (they’re happy to take your steer again on whether they build this in-house or something out of the box). Where they work with Node on the backend any programming experience here would be great, though not essential.

This role will be working very closely with their Information Security Lead, so you’ll be happy working to SOC2 compliance standards (you don’t have to have done so before though).

The candidate

As well as the above, they’re keen to meet people who:

  • Are problem solvers with hunger – energy, ambition and attitude are a big part of their ethos. They like to ‘show and tell,’ so you’ll always be teaching and learning new things.
  • Have a strong enthusiasm for their mission statement.
  • Strong communication skills – they’re very collaborative and like to bounce ideas off of each other.
  • Work in an Agile environment as they’re big, big fans.

This is a great opportunity to join a company that has a clear plan of growth, who also offer a very competitive salary (they’re thinking up to £95K, though happy to consider people who’re exceptional above that) as well as stock options and a very attractive bonus scheme. Remote working went well for them during lockdown so that’s something they’re happy for you to do as well. Some of the team do like to get together in shared workplaces in London, though there’s no pressure on you to do so if you didn’t want to. There’s also a Deliveroo allowance for the team (who doesn’t like free food?).

We welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our team includes parents, the self-taught, the university-educated, and people of a wide variety of nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day for work.

We know that diverse teams are strong teams, and welcome those with alternative identities, backgrounds, and experiences to apply to be part of life at Zebra People. We are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. We would be happy to meet any accommodation requests during the application or interview process, please just let us know.
