Named one of London’s best companies to work for, this insurance start-up is looking for Java Engineers (remote options available) to join their quickly expanding team. Founded just over three years ago, they are already valued at $300M and are backed by investors who have also championed the likes of Monzo and Spotify.
They are on a mission to make insurance more instant, affordable, and inclusive by using machine learning, automation, and comprehensive data integrations to offer quicker, simpler, and fairer insurance to customers!
They’re expecting their customer base to triple and as a tech-orientated business, their engineers are paramount to their success. Their engineers have created several cool tools such as fraud detections systems, a bespoke customer account application service, and a unique risk engine, that accurately prices their customer base.
Currently, there are 5 Java Engineer roles live and they’re hiring across three teams;
The Efficiency Team
These guys are all about making the customer’s experience as instant, efficient and enjoyable as possible. They look to enable their customers to self-serve their policy needs, from making policy changes to managing renewals.
The Growth Team
Here you’d be responsible for making customer sign-up and renewal experiences as customer-friendly as possible. You’d also be maintaining comparison site integrations as well as implementing changes to their pricing system. It’s a cross-functional team, consisting of both backend and frontend engineers, as well as a content designer and product manager.
The Claims Team
This team ensures the claims process is as smooth as possible. This would entail working with delivery partners to build reliable and accurate integrations. Long term, they’d be looking for you to think on a wider scale and fully redesign what the experience should look like.
You’d d be working mainly on the backend with Java 8+, as well as Spring Boot with Spring Cloud and Dynamo DB. As their DevOps services, they use Docker and Terraform as well as AWS Fargate. Although a backend position, familiarity with React would be a bonus.
What’s in it for me?
Although happy for their engineers to remain remote (with an office trip once a quarter), they recently surveyed their employees and have returned to a hybrid working model with 2/3 days in the office.
Across their five roles, their salaries work on bands depending on experience. One offering up to £67K and the other up to £78K (though there is flex here as they’re currently reviewing their salary bands). They also offer stock options to employees as well as 25 days holidays (plus bank holidays), health insurance, lots of self-development opportunities and regular hackathons.
