Service Designer for Government Department in London – £550 a day

6 month London based contract for a lead Service Designer within a core Government department.

The Client

This role will involve both working on services and working collaboratively with organisations to evangelise the integral nature of good design. You will be working on various major services that will be implemented nationwide so that is a great opportunity to see your work have a positive impact on public services.

The Role as Service Designer

Some of the tasks you will be working on could include…

  • Working around your specific service theme and producing clear and concise statements of policy intent and identifying what problems need to be solved and how you will get there
  • Collaborating with a User Researcher to identify the needs of the user, and producing user journeys
  • Generating ideas on how to improve a service, going beyond the digital touchpoints
  • Mentoring others on the importance of service design within a large organisation and how best to achieve excellent UX through various approaches and techniques

The Candidate

  • Must be experienced in design, research and understanding the requirements of the user in regards to services and technology
  • Must have previously worked in a service design role and be knowledgeable about current government processes and design standards
  • Well versed in user research and be able to distill their insights into designing better services for the user
  • Must be aware of the GDS service design manual
  • Will be able to identify where current problems exist and provide excellent solutions
  • Will be comfortable leading projects, ideally with some consultancy experience
  • Comfortable engaging with key stakeholders and gaining buy in
  • Must have a design portfolio to showcase previous case studies
